Israel's
rejection?

question-mark-g1bce39097_1920.jpg

Jeremiah 31:37.

  • Thus says the LORD: "If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the LORD."

Let's check this out!

Measuring the Impossible - Space!

  • Measuring the distance to an extremely far-off cosmic object poses many challenges to scientists, including the fact that the universe is expanding, and has been expanding for nearly all of time.

  • Any distance measurement must take into account exactly how much the space between objects has stretched since an object's light left and travelled to Earth.

  • Astronomers have pegged the universe's current expansion rate — a value known as the Hubble constant, after American astronomer Edwin Hubble — at about 44.7 miles (71.9 kilometers) per second per megaparsec. (One megaparsec is about 3.26 million light-years.) Space.com

Measuring the Impossible – Earth’s Foundations!

  • Humans have travelled all over the Earth. We've conquered lands, flown through the air and dived to the depths of the oceans. We've even been to the Moon.

  • We've never been to the planet's core! We haven't even come close.

  • The central point of the Earth is over 6,000km down, and even the outermost part of the core is nearly 3,000 km below our feet. The deepest hole we've ever created on the surface is the Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia, and it only goes down a pitiful 12.3 km.

  • Lava from erupting volcanoes melts just a few hundred kilometres down.

  • Diamonds, which need extreme heat and pressure to form, originate in rocks less than 500 kilometres deep.

These things cannot be measured therefore God will not cast away Israel or the Jewish people.

What else does Jeremiah say?

Jeremiah 31:35-36

  • Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the LORD of hosts is his name: "If this fixed order departs from before me, declares the LORD, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever."

The Fixed Order of Nature

  • The sun rises each day to give us light.

  • The moon and stars come out at night.

  • The sea is often stirred up so that its waves roar.

As long as these remain Israel will not cease to be a nation!

Proof that the God of Israel exists – The survival of the nation of Israel!

Satan has done his best and will continue to seek to destroy them through various individuals and nations but God will still prevent them from being completely destroyed. ‘For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.’ Malachi 3:6

  • Does God keep his promises? Absolutely, completely, 100%.

  • ‘All things are mortal, but the Jew. All other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?’ Mark Twain

  • Leo Tolstoy, the Russian author of War and Peace, wrote this in an essay ‘What is a Jew?’: -

This question is not at all so odd as it seems. Let us see what peculiar kind of creature the Jew is, which all the rulers and all the nations have together and separately abused and molested, oppressed and persecuted, trampled and butchered, burned and hanged, and, in spite of all this, is yet alive … the Jew is the emblem of eternity. He whom neither slaughter nor torture of himself for years could destroy; he whom neither fire nor sword, nor inquisition was able to wipe from off the face of the earth; he who was the first to produce the oracles of God; he who has been for so long a time the guardian of prophecy, and who has transmitted it to the rest of the world – such a nation cannot be destroyed. The Jew is as everlasting as eternity itself.

Has God rejected his people as the majority of the church believes?

  • I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew.’ Romans 11:1-2

  • And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again.’ Romans 11:23

  • The fact that the Jewish people exist is nothing short of a miracle of God. It is down to the fulfilment of God’s promises and they are living proof that God keeps His promises.

  • The name ‘Israel’ has the meaning of struggling yet prevailing.
